Uncle Sam History
Uncle Sam was born Samuel Wilson in 1807 in Westford, Massachusetts. He became known as Uncle Sam after he joined the United States Army in 1820. He fought in the War of 1812 and later went on to fight in the Mexican-American War. After his service in the army, he moved to Illinois where he worked as a farmer until 1832. In 1833, he married Elizabeth Ann McCarty and they had three children together.
